Yeast apoptosis
Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death implicated in embryogenesis and in the integrity and homeostasis of adult tissues in mammals. Recent studies have shown that apoptosis is also present in yeasts. Our research objective is to identify E.R. proteins implicated in this phenomenon. |
Cellular ageingAgeing is a phenomenon that is still not well understood. However, some mutants with longer lifespan have been isolated in S. cerevisiae. In our project, we seek to identify genes implicated in this mechanism of chronological ageing in S. pombe. |
Prions and the Cin statePrions are proteins that have the remarkable ability to exist in two different conformations, one of which is self-replicative. In the yeast S. pombe, we have discovered a new prion, that we designated [cif]. This prion is implicated in a pathway that allows cell survival in the absence of a normally essential protein, calnexin, thus leading to the Cin state (Calnexin independance). |
